It is my belief that art in it's true essence can enlighten an individual. Through the years of focus and discipline, starting at age 6, I have dedicated myself toward the pursuit of my craft believing my energy is best used toward creating artwork. Through my art I reach universals that people can emotionally connect with. Each work of art is intricately designed from concept to production.
While creating work I often time spends sessions of 10-16 hours working. These sessions require an extreme amount of focus which is how a partial explanation of The Monk came to be. Another is due to my high level of production often times creating hundreds of pieces a year, typically between 200-400.
I have always believed that an artist's path is to fill the world with art or, at least, that is my role as an artist. Art has a way of connecting the viewer with beyond just what one can see. A work of art can trigger the imagination, inspire, and enhance the world around it.
My style of art is called, " Post Modern Barbequeism " which is inspired by the essence, culture, and ritual of barbecueing. The original artwork I produce ranges in mediums and techniques as I let concept and narrative dictate overall style.
I am a mixed media artist as I work in, but am not limited to charcoal, conte, watercolor, acrylic, spray paint, screen printing, collage, ink, and alternative materials.
I developed my techniques while in Savannah while constantly seeking new techniques throughout my career. I am a colorist by ature and it is a theme consistant in my work.
The fashion aspect of my work is Urban Monkism Fashion using patterns based off my artwork I design leggings and other assorted women's clothing while also producing original t-shirt designs with the whole screen printing process done in-house.
During my career as an artist I have published several books including a novel, collection of poetry, art books, a strategic professional practices guide for creatives, and an alphabet book.
I have donated time and work to several charities including Choices, Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, Keys4Kids, and donate my time a visiting instructor at Central Ohio Art Academy specializing in mixed-media.
A project near and dear to my heart is a collaboration I have with Fonta Flora Brewery and Defiant Whisky. Annually, Urban Monk imperial stout - aged with Defiant Whisky oak spirals is brewed. We teamed up as friends to produce an event held at Fonta Flora Brewery called "Funk & The Monk" which is the beer release coinciding with an exhibition of all new work I produce specifically for this event.
Styles/themes I work in - abstract, landscapes, seascapes, portraits, pet portraits, illustrations, paintings, large scales paintigs, collage, mixed media, sports, flowers, political, murals, and commissions.
